Paws and Respect - Dog Safety for Kids Workshop.

As a Kids Around Dogs approved professional, I believe in creating a world where children and dogs can coexist safely and respectfully.

The Paws and Respect workshop is designed to teach children the importance of respecting dogs and understanding their behaviour.
The Mission

My goal is not just about safety around dogs but fostering a deep respect for them. By understanding dogs and listening to their needs, we can prevent dog-related injuries and create a more harmonious environment for both children and dogs. While we can't entirely stop dog bites, we can significantly reduce the risk through education and awareness.

Who Are the Talks For?

The workshops are tailored for Key Stage 1 (including Reception) and Key Stage 2 children.

Why This Age Range?

Broad Reach: Covering Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 allows us to reach a large number of children, including those in the second highest age group for dog-related injuries.

Flexible Learning Environment: This period is free from the pressures of GCSEs and career planning, making schools more open to presenting diverse learning topics.

Parental Involvement: During these stages, parents are more involved in their children's education, giving us a chance to engage with the entire family.

Developmental Readiness: Studies show that children from age 4 can understand emotions and opinions, which can be applied to interactions with dogs.

What Will the Children Learn?

The KAD Program is designed with age-appropriate learning activities, including games and stories that actively involve children.

Here's what they will learn:

CANINE BODY LANGUAGE

Understand how dogs communicate and recognise positive and negative changes

RESPECTFUL INTERACTION

Learning how to approach dogs respectfully or deciding if they should approach them at all.

MUTUAL BENEFITS

Recognise the ways dogs contribute to our lives and how we can care for them.

Workshop Structure

The workshops will be delivered twice per academic year. The first is ideally during Autumn Term (Sept/Oct) ad the second during the Summer Term (May/June) which will include a visit from a dog.
